About Fort Macleod
Fort Macleod is located south of Calgary, along the Calgary to Lethbridge route. Fort MacLeod was founded by the North-West Mounted Police barracks and named after Colonel James Macleod. The original NWMP fort in Fort Macleod has been converted into a museum dedicated to educating and engaging residents and visitors to the history of Fort Macleod and the NWMP. Main Street is another designated historical site in Fort Macleod that is a must see!
Fort Macleod is also known for its golf courses and for Head Smashed-in Buffalo Jump, a UNESCO site that is one of the greatest and well preserved buffalo jumps in North America. Another highlight in Fort Macleod is the hub of Arts and Culture, the Empress Theatre.
